This rehab center utilizes a new building material -- a 3D printed self joining brick. While it is a tool to create the overall structure, it serves a more phenomenological purpose. The weight and depth of these walls expand and contract based on areas of waiting and passing. The walls are smooth and thin for the public, and become thick and textured when one ventures to more sensitive areas of the facility. The building responds throughout to its programmatic organization, with an emphasis on the joint, texture, and transparency. It ultimately encourages patients to shift their focus to more positive and beautiful environment in a time of desperate need.
